Long Weekend plot
Peter (James Caviezel) and Carla (Claudia Karvan) are on holiday in the wilds of Australia. The couple are having a great time, until the holiday takes a turn they didn't expect. They soon find out that Australia's wildlife is not satisfied with their disrespectful behavior...

Rubbish.
I think the idea of a horror film is that one of the characters at least arouses some sympathy, so that it remains exciting whether she or he will survive the event. But in this film we are dealing with two very annoying and unsympathetic people. The faster the better, I think, but the film stretches that quite a bit. It doesn't want to be really exciting, and the mystery has been achieved more through the art of omission than through truly mysterious events.
Also the beautiful nature is hardly used. I think that could have been done much better without much effort.
Messing around in the margins, that's all I can make of it.

Pretty decent adventure/thriller. Contains a nice location and looks attractive. The film is exciting and mysterious, although it starts off poorly and not enough happens everywhere. Nevertheless, the film is enjoyable.

A better one in the beast horror genre. Although you should not expect too much actual 'horror', because this Long Weekend throws its trump cards more on subcutaneous tension/atmosphere than on gore or scares. It doesn't leave much to the imagination in terms of plot and the whole 'nature's revenge' theme could hardly be more subtle, but the atmosphere is okay and the film has some strong finds. That manatee was great and the lock was also great. Furthermore, the bunch was excruciatingly irritating, but that is what the film itself clearly aims for. Great snack. 3*.
