A small group of survivors from a military installation who survived World War 3 ride across a desolate and dead landscape to where they hope there are still survivors. Hopefully, their purpose-built vehicle will protect them from the bizarre weather, mutated plants, animals and other dangers along the way.

What a piece of junk. This is a film to be ashamed of. Damnation Alley is an example of how you achieve absolutely no result, even with a fairly large budget. The special effects are a disaster: those giant scorpions looked awful, and the actress who was pounced on by these monsters was suddenly replaced by an inflatable doll. A totally incomprehensible scene, too. Airwolf actor Jan Michael Vincent gets to play circus monkey and perform tricks on the motorbike. He grins broadly more than once, as if the whole post-apocalyptic situation is actually quite fun. And then that ending... you have to see it to believe it. I can't say much good about this, except perhaps for the scene with the flesh-eating cockroaches and the design of the "landmasters", which also prevents me from giving the film a 0.5*.

I have to say that the film was quite nice up until the outbreak of World War III, but what they showed afterwards was more likely to provoke laughter than intended. The so-called mutated animals and environments (ridiculous skies), in particular, made absolutely no sense. I have rarely seen such cheap and shoddy special effects in a film as this one.
The whole story became a ridiculous and sad affair after the Third World War anyway. If you look at the cast of this film, it explains a lot, because they are just all mediocre actors who had their heyday in TV series. I rented this film once back in the 80s, but that was just a waste of my 4 guilders. I could have bought chewing gum or a pornographic book from a second-hand shop with that money instead, and I would have enjoyed it much more. Impressive and amazing that this misery still has such a high average rating here.
