It was certainly a nice Australian revenge film, but a little less than I expected and with a low level of realism here and there (eg that scene with Christian being gagged in the chair with that key.. The story comes back to the old way: Daughter is wronged and father is going to take bloody revenge on everyone responsible, adding a few Saw actions and of course the film is again more about the extreme torture than the story itself The film is definitely ultra-violent! In between we have the impressive strong scenes between Christian and that liftster Alice. The acting was certainly more than adequate, but it could have been a little more subtle with more things behind it.

3.5*

I can actually keep it simple about The Horseman: the film loses out to Taken on all fronts. It's going too far for me to think of The Horseman as a mockbuster, but since that movie came out a little earlier, I can't make much else out of it. Maybe it's just plain coincidence. In any case, the stories don't differ very much, although there aren't such notorious bad guys around here, as is the case in Taken. Only a few people who suffered the protagonist's revenge did I have the idea that it was 'justified'. It is well known that the porn industry is not a pure business, but I felt uncomfortable with people being trimmed up because they were mainly in the wrong place and at the wrong time. The acting is not bad, but the appearance is very cheap. Despite the speed, the story is mediocre. The 'villains' are mostly just blowing in the air and the build-up is very simple. Not recommended unless you get a kick out of violence. The Horseman really has nothing else to offer.

The story about a man who has lost his daughter and is out for revenge is far from original. The father duly portrays his role in an otherwise hard thriller that aims to show the violence as gruesome as possible. The scenes are hard and very bloody, but the film is hardly exciting. In addition, that torture is not fun to watch, the further I got the more I got annoyed by it.
