Sympathetic and successful comedy about two robbers who are released after 30 years in prison. I thought the first hour was great. There were a few good jokes. That thing about the train robbery that they want to do again may not have been really necessary but it fits in with the 80s urge to put at least one spectacular scene in every film.

Kirk Douglas is now a hundred and still alive, but when he acted in Tough Guys he was not yet a grandpa: his body was still well trained when you see him busy in the gym. In the film he is the hipster of the two who is still looking for action (laughing when he tries on modern outfits and shows his behind to the world ), while Lancaster is the one who wants to take it a bit easier. That cop did not add much to the whole but I did like Eli Wallach as a popup hitman haha. Also striking is the performance of the then unknown Red Hot Chilipeppers in a dance hall where Douglas goes wild.

Good movie about two old criminal buddies who are released after 30 prison. The humor is a bit predictable and also good. But still this 80s comedy is entertaining over the entire length, mainly because of the two old hands Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. A narrow 3.5 stars.

At times a funny comedy about two train robbers who are both released after 30 years in prison.

Society has changed a bit in the meantime, and both have some problems with it in their own way, Harry wants to take it a bit easier and Archie appears to be still very popular with the younger ladies.

Meanwhile, there is a hitaman after them both who is a bit nearsighted and a cop who is obsessed with them.

There are a few nice supporting roles that are original and make the film a bit funnier, but the potential that is in it is not realized, it seemed as if Douglas and Lancaster were acting a bit uninspired.

But otherwise there is plenty to enjoy, the film certainly has its charm.
