A kind of Japanese Evil Dead or Bad Taste, but slightly less so.

Unfortunately, Zombie Self-Defense Force is shot rather boringly. Lots of static camera points and little experimentation. This occasionally made it difficult to maintain attention. I was already afraid that it would become a kind of Stacy, which I turned off after half an hour. But fortunately the film turns out to be a nice butchery.

The Japanese zombies still can't convince me, but luckily the gore can. It is so sufficient that every kill is entertaining. The CGI is bad as usual, although this is the low point. Some nice creations too, such as the baby, which was really genius. Fortunately, the film is peppered with humor that is often quite successful. The cast is not that special, although the pop star has quite a high kawaii factor.

The twist at the end was nice, and it fits perfectly with a nonsensical film like this. The fight at the end was unfortunately subpar. Zoni Jieitai starts slowly with often boring camera work but gets better and better. Just don't take the film too seriously, because the makers don't do that either.

Once again a nice and ridiculous work from Tomomatsu.
His individual prints never reach the quality of his collaboration with Yoshihiro Nishimura, but he does manage to give his own trademark to his 'J-sploitation' films.
Bad acting, ridiculous special effects and a storyline that completely fails: these are the ingredients of this film.
Not all ideas are equal. For example, I found the 'singer' annoying and the ending revolves around the robot military, the military zombie leader and the hassle with the [spoiler ]UFO a bit messy.
Nevertheless, the film is still watchable for fans of 'so bad it's good' and the flying zombie baby still manages to provide some 'highlights'.

As a quick light-hearted idea, my eye fell on a pile of questionable zombie films that I still have lying around, so I decided to take a look at them, resulting in this Asian case. And...yes...how should you describe this...? Now I quite like a zombie movie, especially in combination with some humor and some filth, but this Zombie Self Defense Force was definitely next level shit that I would rather skip.

First of all, there is all the ridiculous anti-America propaganda where they completely exonerate themselves of crimes in the Second World War, it is to be hoped that this is not meant seriously. What follows is probably the worst flying saucer ever shown cinematically, which after its crash spreads something that grips people. The whole design of small locations with a few actors, the very poor make-up and the mediocre action irrevocably reveal that this is a film with an ultra-low budget. If the characters then also seem to be irritating, like the pop star, most hope for the film is lost.

But there is actually a tiny bit of improvement in about half of the film when the gore and humor find each other somewhat. The sounds that have been edited are terrible, with that annoying tick that can be heard all the time or some electronic sound, the flying baby is especially startling, but moments like the zombie stylist with her spray can are quite funny. The final battle of this crazy mishmash of a film has a high Mortal Kombat quality. But I'm really not going to get a passing grade for this because this was really too bad for that.
