Evelyn Heath is an emotionally vulnerable and unstable woman who temporarily resides at the home of her doctor Dan Proctor. There Evelyn meets Dan's brother Douglas and she falls in love with him. Douglas is happily married to Ann. Evelyn then does everything possible to destroy that happy marriage and win the love of Douglas, but with tragic consequences.
