When Evil Calls plot

"Evil has your number"

Wilburn Hall is an average university with a complex hierarchy. For example, there is Samantha (Jennifer Lim). On a normal weekday she is walking home when suddenly a door falls from the sky. A clown emerges from the door. He allows Samatha to make one wish via text message. In exchange, she has to forward the text of a certain text message to two people. The clown (or is it an angry jinn) continues in college harassing all the youngsters who have a cell phone, wreaking havoc. Will the students at Wilburn Hall be able to ward off 'evil'?

Unbelievable how bad this was.

Almost all murders were about appearance.

It's like I was watching a commercial, which makes it clear that you should be happy just the way you are.

only the ending shocked me, that's the only thing.

0.5 star

Hilarious ignorance.

Roadkill (2011) was a very nice work by Johannes Roberts, but this is something different. More of a snack made without a budget. The way the story is told (literally) is a bit tiring, but at the same time something always happens.

Glad he doesn't really take it seriously, it occasionally goes over the top in a nice caricature. Actually very wrong, but it doesn't always come across because the quality fluctuates quite a bit. Nice ideas but mediocre execution.

After delivering more serious work, director Johannes Roberts suddenly released a horror comedy in 2008. In any case, the light-hearted tone is advantageous compared to his previous films, but in terms of quality it remains a cheap piece of junk. The catch is that it is supposed to be a kind of anthology film with 20 short chapters, but after the umpteenth interruption by Sean Pertwee to piece things together, the fun is lost. The acting is quite solid and the puns certainly hold their own in the first half, but the lack of urgency and tension starts to take a big toll after a while. After yet another horror concept introduced, a film like this simply loses its effect, no matter how bloody the kills may sometimes be. The make-up effects also make a sloppy impression and the threats don't look good, but fortunately it all lasts a nice short time and some roles are really impressive. Roberts got better and better with each project, but navigating his way through his earlier films is certainly not a fun task to do.
