Bertrand Morane is an inconspicuous middle-aged man who devotes his life entirely to chasing women. There are many kinds of women in Bertrand's life, yet he never meets the One. He cannot give love and, strangely enough, does not want to receive love. When Bertrand contracts a venereal disease, he decides to write a book about his obsession. He gets a female publisher to publish the book.
