Film that absolutely does not know the end as everyone would have expected.

Initially, "The Deep South" was thought to be the film's title, referring to the book it is based on.

Not so surprising, because the contrasts between the North and the South of the States and the still dormant hatred and prejudice towards each other, as a result of the past civil war, are a very important point in the film.

Next to that are the ruthless personal ambitions of a lawyer, the sensationalist press (I've seen Mervyn LeRoy take on the media many times lately), who also don't shy away from the inhumane consequences, the craziness of the crowd and the bias of the government, at the front of this film.

Solid direction and the film debut of...Lana Turner.

A year after Fritz Lang's 'Fury', Mervin LeRoy made a prototype courtroom drama that also focuses on manipulating the population of a small town. This to the greater honor and glory of a politician, played by Claude Rains. In one of the supporting roles, Lana Turner makes her debut, immediately splashing off the screen.
