Soberly filmed. Without frills. No softening use of color or atmospheric shots. You could call it amateur realism.

Scary? Nah. Well, a few snippets. And that is probably due to the realistic filming style, without frills or embellishments. It was filmed in a simple, everyday setting. Ordinary and easy to imagine. That helps somewhat with immersion.

There are special effects! They are sparse and unremarkable, but quite effective in setting the atmosphere. They help to heighten the tension during the tense moments.

The use of the music is striking. It is very present. Stomping psychedelic. As are the visuals. The images change as the tension builds and become less static and routine. Like the music, they lean towards psychedelia. Quite nice, actually.

Actually, the shock in the film isn't that bad in itself. It's more the effect of the oppressive atmosphere combined with ordinariness that creates tension. But then again, we're only talking about brief moments in the film.

For, unlike the exciting moments, the interludes are boring, long, and drawn-out. A lot of talking. A lot of explanation. A lot of unnecessary drama. Not particularly engaging.

The acting. Ridiculously bad. Talentless.

Furthermore, sloppy details. Such as the daughter who doesn't look like a teenager, because she is played by a visibly older 'actress'. Or the school friend who looks like an office clerk who outgrew his teenage years long ago. Sloppy. Sloppy. But indicative of an amateurish film that only stands out slightly for a few nice, suspenseful moments that are actually worth watching.

Oh yes, also take a moment to notice the unnecessary, lame reprise after the credits. Quite telling!

Boring.

A film I clicked on for convenience on the train on my way to England. It is clearly not a film that requires much attention or is difficult to follow. No, this mainly takes a very simple premise and develops it in the most simplistic way.

Incidentally, also in the most boring way, because no matter what the film does, nothing ever happens that can grab even the slightest bit of attention. It is a very safe haunted house movie that also has to throw all kinds of nonsense into the mix, such as a bad father-daughter relationship. None of us are waiting for it, yet it is there.

The haunting is boring and the plot just as boring. I can't say much else about it. I struggled immensely to get through it, but fortunately it is short. Films like this simply lack ambition, as they blindly copy what other films do, only with even less imagination and vision. Therefore, I am absolutely not going to give it a good rating.

A couple [Lee Bane, Natalie Martins] discovers that something is amiss in their new house. They enlist the help of a scientist [Jared Morgan] and a medium [Tricia Ford] in the type of deadly dull, poorly written horror film from the abysmal oeuvre of exploitation horror viceroy Jones.
