Ruggles is a true Angelic butler: a snob and totally devoted to his master. The latter - the foolish Lord Burnstead - loses Ruggles in a game of poker to Egbert Floud, a rough but good-hearted American millionaire from the Wild West. Arriving in far-flung Red Gap, Ruggles is at first horrified at having to work for barbarians, but he soon learns the meaning of freedom and equality and starts his own business.
