Breakfast with Scot plot

"He's staying for dinner, too!"

Eric lives for all things ice hockey. A former player of a major national team, he now works as a television sports reporter. He is living his ultimate dream. But when Eric's friend and life partner Sam announces that they are getting temporary custody of an 11-year-old orphan, his dream is shattered. Scot, the rather effeminate boy, is the exact opposite of Eric. Horrified by Scot's behavior, Eric tries to convey his passion to him: hockey. After Scot's first disastrous match, Eric rethinks how many compromises he's made in his life in order to be "accepted."

a nice feel-good movie; with many moving moments, but for me the magic is somewhat lacking. Perhaps the film is not familiar enough for me. Or is it just that ice hockey is not my sport.

The beginning was promising. Especially by Scott, because what a cute character he is!

A sweet boy who wants nothing more than to just be himself. And that is precisely the problem for his 'future parents'. It is especially difficult for Eric to deal with a boy who clearly has many characteristics of a girl. Of course, you immediately know why this is so difficult for him. He has been doing his utmost to be a real man all his life. Both for the outside world and for themselves. Even if he is gay. It seems as if Scott has to fight against all the prejudices from before. And he clearly doesn't feel like it.

Fortunately, there is Sam who can put everything into perspective and who ensures that Eric comes around little by little and realizes that being yourself is much more important than proving yourself to half the world.

Beautiful message and life lesson, that's for sure. But after a while you understand it all and it gets very corny. Although I certainly don't want to destroy the film because I did enjoy it and as mentioned, Scott steals the show. I dare even say that he carries the film. You just really feel for him. Everything else goes as you expect and the ending is anything but a surprise.

So, nice snack, nothing more, nothing less.
