Man behind the Gun, The plot
"An Easy-Going Gent with Deadly Guns...and a Reputation to Match!"
California, circa 1850. Ransome Callicut, a government agent, arrives incognito as a schoolteacher in Los Angeles. He must investigate an organization that wants to make Southern California a state of its own. Ransome has an affair with school teacher Lora Roberts, whom he recently rescued in a stagecoach robbery. However, Ransome's rival is hot-headed army captain Roy Giles, who is also in the organization for secession from California. When Ransome finds out who the leader of the separatists is, all hell breaks loose.
