Could rat brains fly a plane in the future? Will humans live to be 300 years old in the future? And will machines eventually become more intelligent than homo sapiens? The technology has undergone tremendous evolution in the last 15 years. It seems that man is out to perfect his own kind and maybe even surpass it in the future. The ultimate goal of this development is to create something transhuman, 'superhuman': a human being with perfect eyes, immune to all kinds of diseases and to the laws of death and decay. But at the expense of what and who is this going to be? Filmmaker Frank Theys introduces you to scientists who are convinced that we are approaching an era in which humans, as we know them today, will no longer be the most intelligent beings on Earth. Technocalypse deals with the far-reaching implications of the upcoming developments for the human race. Proponents and opponents are allowed to speak about this intriguing, but also ominous picture of the future.
