"A Tale of Forbidden Love"
Cheng Huan comes to England as a missionary of Buddhism, where he quickly becomes disillusioned with apathy and xenophobia. He opens a shop, where one day Lucy Burrows steps in, who is oppressed by her tyrannical father and who recently beat her up, causing her to pass out in the shop. Huan offers her a bed and takes care of her, but Lucy's father is furious when he learns that his daughter is living in a foreigner's house.
