In 1933, normally quiet San Jose is rocked by a blind hatred for two kidnapping townspeople, Howard Tyler and Jerry Slocum. Residents form a group and plan to lynch them. Tyler and Slocum had kidnapped a rich boy and wanted to collect a ransom. Things went wrong and the boy was killed. After the kidnappers were arrested, local journalist Gil Stanton incited the public against the two.

Rather unsubtle, preachy and concisely worked out. Renzo Cesana's character really couldn't. Although it's all pretty pulpy anyway. The final piece is quite impressive, but comes too much out of nowhere, so it doesn't feel realistic enough. Strongly filmed with, among other things, many Dutch angles and other shots that play with the perspective.

Nice film about an unemployed man with a family who gets involved with a criminal to get money. The first half is a pretty standard crime drama. During the last part, the whole thing shifts a bit towards a social drama, and this doesn't work very well here. The whole revolt towards the end is also slightly exaggerated.
