Son of the Dragon plot

Devil Boy, once abandoned in the harbor of Shanghai, has grown into an adventurous young thief. He steals to feed the street children he considers his family. Now, with his faithful companion Bird, he has devised a clever plan to steal the jewels from the royal palace. For this he has to compete for the hand of Li Wei, the daughter of the governor, whom he immediately falls for. Coincidentally, Li Wei is just looking for a suitable suitor. But there's a lot of competition from the prince from the north, who seems to be the right choice for the governor politically. Li Wei, however, is enamored with Devil Boy and manages to persuade her father to put her suitors through a series of difficult tests.
