Ohayô plot
Remake of Ozu's own Umarete wa Mita Keredo (1932). Because the boys Minoru and Isamu constantly whine about wanting a TV, their parents tell them to be quiet. The boys then decide to refuse to say anything.

Happy Ozu, my first. As I read, very light in tone, too light actually to really leave an impression, but certainly a film that tastes like more from this director. Beautifully subdued acting (compare that with work by Kurosawa from the same time), strong images with a great sense of location (with old and new construction together) and just a nice slice of life. Not completely in focus (that first half hour is fairly separate from the last hour), but in this kind of film it matters less. The characters are warm and very human and sensible things are said that are mainly food for thought after the film. 3.5*.

A film about 2 children who want a television, how exciting can this be? Go and have a look. If this little guy doesn't make you happy then something is very wrong, this movie is all fun! . Beautiful also those Japanese houses on the inside, what an eye for detail Ozu has..

From the somewhat heavier Tokyo Twilight, now time for this Good Morning, one of Ozu's more light-hearted films. Here too, the filmmaker shines in the simplicity and tranquility that he radiates with his warm images. The story of some children who like to watch television, but they are not in favor of it at home. Then they just shut up to get their way. That small fact is also gradually mixed with other storylines. A fun and cheerful story. Less gripping than other films by Ozu, but completely in his well-known style.
