The Last Days of Shishmaref plot
"An Inupiaq community swallowed by the sea"
Documentary about three Inupiaq families in Alaska whose traditional way of life is coming to an end. The Eskimos of the settlement of Shishmaref have been living in a nightmare for years: due to the effects of global warming, their island will be swallowed by the sea within ten years. The film traces the lives of several families and individuals on the island during these difficult and exciting times for the community. They have decided to move to the mainland. But different generations think differently about their near future. The younger ones would like to move to a place closer to the larger Alaskan cities while the older ones prefer a deserted place where they can continue their traditional way of life. In the end, the choice fell on Tin Creek. The elderly are happy with the chosen site for the relocation. Although Tin Creek is located on the mainland of Alaska, it is just as remote from civilization as the island.
