Despair plot
"A hysterical comedy"
1930. Hermann Hermann, a Jewish chocolate manufacturer who fled from Russia, lives with his wife in Berlin. In addition to a midlife crisis, he suffers from a kind of paranoid schizophrenia: he keeps running into himself, finds himself observed by himself and ends up on the brink of a mental crisis. His child-wife Lydia has an extramarital affair with her 'cousin', his company is almost bankrupt and the National Socialists are on the rise. During a business trip, when he meets Felix Weber, a drifter who is said to look just like him, the idea arises to radically rid himself of his nightmares and past. For his – in his own words – 'journey to the light' – he devises an insane plan.
