Watchmen plot
"Justice is coming to all of us. No matter what we do."
In an alternate 1985, superheroes have been banned by the US federal government. Where previously superheroes were part of the general American street scene, the government has declared superhero existence illegal. When one of his former colleagues is murdered in these troubled days of the Cold War, masked vigilante Rorschach launches an investigation. Slowly but surely, this uncovers a dark conspiracy.

Maximum score for this daring, deviant superhero film.Great performance by Zack Snyder here.Beautiful opening of the film with the Bob dylan classic, and the images accompanying it, which told a lot.Good casting, striking music, lead characters with character, and each its own story.
Nice and unpredictable, hard at times, and remained captivating, despite the long running time (and yes, including the long, blurry scenes with Dr.Manhattan). Seen all three versions, and the film stands up straight as far as I'm concerned.So much better than the other superhero movies.

I'm not a fan of Zack Snyder and he confirms with Watchmen (2009) that he produces mostly boring and depressing films. Only Dawn of the Dead (2004) is worth it to me, but that is a remake so not very original.
Half the movie are you looking at dark images, probably to further underline the depressing tone that Snyder pursues? Rorschach tries hard to mimic the voice of Christian Bale's Batman. His voice overs are very annoying. Doctor Manhattan, on the other hand, looks happier as a blue, luminous bodybuilder. Patrick Wilson as Batman, I mean Night Owl, doesn't do anything in this film either.
The action is nice and violent, with lots of slow-motion footage to come across as dramatic. Although it quickly stops after the first impressive opening fight.
The music is nice, we get songs from Nat King Cole, Bob Dylan, Nena, Simon & Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen and Philip Glass. But of course you can also just put on an oldies compilation CD and watch a better movie. I expected more from this film due to the fairly high score here and on IMDb. I should have known better!

This really wasn't my thing. I couldn't get into it and the film didn't captivate me for a single moment.
I don't think I've ever looked so many times on the screen how long a movie would last. Only to find out again and again that I was only 10 minutes further each time 
Sigh.
This was really tough. Uninteresting, long-winded and soporific.
The only positive thing I found was the acting, the effects and the dry humor every now and then.
That tastes differ considerably, is proven once again.
