The film is set up as a neo-noir with the promise of showing the crime side of Kar-Wai Wong with an interesting Tarantino and also Lynch vibe to the crime story at the beginning with hallucinatory images of city life at night, but then the film switches to a different character and story, making it suddenly seem like an absurdist comedy that delivers some silly nonsense, but in the end both stories are about love again with the well-known themes such as the temporary of everything. It is mainly because of the beautiful filmmaking and the mystery that the film continues to entertain and sometimes intrigue.

No, this didn't quite turn out for me. Sometimes beautifully shot, but also very experimental where the content is pushed too much into the background. And sometimes the film was even incomprehensible, so I didn't feel any connection. There were also some weird bits in there, like that stupid ice cream seller. I really couldn't help it at all, not even a faint smile. In the end, the film was a collection of beautiful images and some really nice moments, but in 100 minutes that is really too little to be constantly captivated. 2.5*.

A somewhat different approach from Kar-wai Wong than I am used to. The crime card is clearly being drawn here and that way of killing, that flashy and energetic one even reminded me a bit of a Tarantino. There was even something humorous about it without necessarily being funny.

The hit man looking for a thrill to boost his otherwise dull life, like a kind of drug, a necessary evil that demands and desires more and more until you become completely dependent on it.

In addition, the ever-recurring strong atmosphere setting with the bustling nightlife of traffic, passages, neon lights and many dingy squalid slums. Humor and absurd situations are also not far away. Now take the scenes with the ice cream vendor.

There is so much in this movie that I would like to watch it again. Very entertaining and captivating to watch. As always a feast for the eyes. And the theme of love is tackled from a different angle. Nice.
