Flower & Garnet plot

Eight-year-old Garnet is a quiet loner. His emotionless father Ed hardly exchanges a word with him, and his sixteen-year-old sister Flower has taken on the mother role since birth because his real mother died during childbirth. While it's not uttered, it seems Ed is blaming Garnet for this. Garnet is increasingly living in his own world, aided by the discovery of his shooting skills, thanks to the air rifle Ed gives him for his birthday. Meanwhile, the relationship between Ed and the rapidly maturing Flower also becomes increasingly difficult.

A truly beautiful, human film. From the very first frames, it was clear I was watching a better film. Beautiful, subtle photography, but also beautifully small and subtle scenes. These were more intended to be observed than spoken, just like the protagonists' lives. The only thing missing at the beginning was a clear narrative. As a viewer, you gradually got to know the main characters. But the story also builds, as it should in this film, very slowly and subtly. And then, ultimately, a truly beautiful film emerges. Not a cheerful film. But a truly beautiful and subtle film about people who, each in their own way, have been damaged by that one event in their lives.
