The Bank Job plot

"The true story of a heist gone wrong... in all the right ways."

In September 1971, a gang of thieves dug a tunnel under the Baker Street bank in London and made off with three million pounds in jewelry and cash. No one was ever arrested and the loot never recovered. The whole case was covered up by the government and only now revealed: a story that reveals that the thieves are not the only criminals and that included murder, a sex scandal and the royal family.

Pretty cool, almost exclusively thanks to the plot and all kinds of figures from high to low who get involved in the crack with extortion-practices and beatings. Even if it were only a quarter of the truth, I would still find it remarkable (in a positive sense). I am a bit tired of Statham because of the eternal types and pronunciations, I notice, but fortunately this is not a one man show.

The characters are bursting with characters and the film rages past with a few exciting moments. It only lacks some class or brutality of other (British) crime films, it is not too special in terms of music and camera work and the wrong characters that can give extra shine, unfortunately do not. Although, that Michael X excluded

Quite a few years ago I took it on a day off and always lingered in the memory, and today a re-watch finally came of it.

The film immediately scores with its opening, image is not even necessary because T-Rex with Get It On does this singlehanded. And yes, the era that follows in terms of clothing, music, cars and atmosphere is wonderful. Of course we have Statham, something that normally scares me off because of the many mediocre films in which he plays the male spitter, yet the comparison with Lock Stock and Snatch is not far off. And the film can of course be compared to that, although the British humor and colorful characters are a bit less and the tone a bit more serious, which is actually good for Statham who is also a bit more solid.

The movie comes across a bit messy in the beginning with the many characters and the many people regarding contents of the lockers, and there are quite a few, and the stakes are therefore high towards the end. The 'job' itself is of course interesting, but the aftermath and struggle that comes with it is not inferior. It is also nice how all parties are played against each other at the end, even though it is very easy. Statham is doing fine although the action hero scene does rear its head again towards the end, Burrows provides the view and furthermore Daniel Mays is a nice character and David Suchet's performance is nice.

The Bank Job can therefore be called a pleasant film that takes something from many genres and is mainly characterized as a smooth and entertaining film. Nice!

Nice film that has to keep a lot of balls in the air but succeeds in doing so in a clever way. What helps is that this isn't set up as a Statham vehicle but as a standalone film with a plot in which Statham only plays the (otherwise entrusted) lead role, and in combination with the fact that he is also fortunately not infallible ([ spoiler]Although happily married, he still allows himself to be tempted into a stupid one-night stand) that gives the film just a different specific weight. Beautiful and funny entanglements (like that radio amateur, and how and why the trick with the ambulance doesn't work), a few nasty moments, and excellent work by the entire cast.
