Railroad Tigers plot

"Roaring soon"

In December 1941, Japan further expanded its occupation of neighboring countries into Southeast Asia. The railway from Tianjin to Nanjing in eastern China becomes a major military transport route, heavily guarded by Japanese soldiers. Rail worker Ma Yuan leads a team of freedom fighters. Using his knowledge of the rail network, he and his men sabotage the rail, stealing from the Japanese soldiers to feed the hungry Chinese. When Japan sends in reinforcements, Ma Yuan launches his most dangerous mission, blowing up a heavily guarded railway bridge.

Bit mediocre chan.

Well set up and the first half hour is still quite fun. Occasionally some glitzy animation in between, especially that first battle with the bridge is very nicely displayed. The introductions of the characters are also funny. So it is good in terms of action spectacle.

I also rarely get annoyed by the negative portrayal of Japanese people in Chinese films, but this one makes it a bit too colorful at times. You have caricatures and you have some unworldly bad guys that are used for an entire film. And not even really in a humorous way, although that Chinese humor is not always mine either.

Furthermore, a war story with a bridge siege that also did not fascinate me very much. The action scenes themselves are great, but occasionally lack the necessary panache. It's not really adrenaline-boosting. Chan is also used sparingly and those who hope for his typical antics also come home from a bare fair.

It is not annoying, but given the budget and the material available, a better film could have been made with it. It doesn't get really boring or boring, but it's not a movie that I will remember for a long time.

2.5*

Disappoints. It is noticeable that Chan has aged, the film is packed with action, but unfortunately there are no big stunts and flashy fights like he used to do in the past. Too bad because that's actually the only reason why I watched his films, he doesn't need his acting talent. What remains is a film full of slapstick and lame, rather childish humor with mediocre action, not even a good fight. I have to admit that it looks pretty good in terms of costumes, sets and setting, but the special fx are disappointing and look pretty fake. All in all not enough for a pass.
