Mediterraneo plot

"On a magical Greek island a soldier is about to discover that it is better to make love instead of war"

An Italian ship leaves a handful of soldiers behind on a small island in the Greek Sea. Their mission: to occupy the island and keep an eye on enemy ships. The only village on the island seems deserted, and with not a single enemy in sight, the soldiers prepare for a quiet life. After a while the village doesn't seem so deserted after all and the locals slowly emerge...

So you see that war can also have a farcical side. Charly Chaplin was also once forgotten and ignorant that the war was over....

Occasionally some funny sayings (usually it's meaningless that should count as humor). The characters are very caricatured, so that we mainly have to make do with a nice sun, some nice pictures, a carefree atmosphere and luckily beautiful music.

Was the competition from foreign films for an Oscar Award so weak that year?

A group of Italian soldiers is sent to occupy a remote small Greek island during World War II. All radio contact with the rest of the army has been lost. At first the island seems completely deserted, but then it turns out that a group of old men, women and children still live there. And so they learn to live together there. The film has something surreal and also a pleasant atmosphere. It all looks nice until the end, but the film is certainly not a high flyer either.

I actually quite entertained with this Mediterraneo. Came on my radar as winner of an Oscar for best foreign (non-English language) film. When looking at the mess of irregulars, it soon became clear why the army command dropped this motley crew on an innocent, unimportant island.

You have to be something for it or it will soon be labeled as bland. Fortunately, I was in the film and could therefore immerse myself in the airy and crazy atmosphere on the island. As you have to hand it to the Italians with a lot of gestures and roars, but that didn't make much impression on the others.

The feminine beauty was a nice change. Here and there a nice scene such as the chickens, the donkey or the football. Not the best, but good for once. Very narrow 3.5*.
