Although Jaws 3-D and Jaws: The Revenge have been around for many years, there are certainly worse films starring killer cartilaginous fish. Just think of those countless ripoffs. And one of the stupidest copies of Spielberg's classic is without a doubt Cruel Jaws. A film that is actually better known as Jaws 5.

With cheap ripoffs like Cruel Jaws, there are a few points that can make such a film somewhat bearable. First, you have unsuspecting swimmers and a large shark; That must provide some entertainment. Most of the time. In Cruel Jaws, however, we only see an actor or actress moving spastically in the water, while the cameraman shakes the camera wildly back and forth. The shark is nowhere to be seen.

Now and then we see a shark, but it doesn't belong in the film. The clever makers of Jaws 5 chose to use someone else's footage. So on the one hand you see an expert (including glasses and very wrong sports shorts) standing on a boat and then a shot from Jaws 2, L'Ultimo Squalo or some National Geographic documentary flashes by. Still quite an achievement; making a film about a shark without having shot a single shot of a shark.

The last hope for the film was a dose of healthy self-mockery, but that is also not for Cruel Jaws. But let's be honest; the film does contain humor. Because who couldn't laugh when the clever sea lion pushed the mean mafia boss into the water. Hilarious, right? Furthermore, the film mainly revolves around an annoying little girl in a wheelchair, her father's dolphinarium that is in danger of closing and a surfing competition, where the "actors" of course just stand on the beach with a surfboard in their claws. Add to that the in-depth dialogues and a beautiful variation on the Star Wars theme and you have Cruel Jaws. A new highlight in the world of Jaws ripoffs.

0.5 stars.

Soooo bad! It is almost impossible to give a description because this is just REALLY too bad.

Bad work with the stolen montage pieces from Jaws 1 to 3 and L'Ultimo Squalo and kind of "National Geographic" like pieces. Which also do not fit and match each other. Like fully dressed people standing along a jetty. But the shark is so strong, it can easily break that. For example, people fall into the water but suddenly you see that they are wearing swimming trunks....................

Not only are the stolen montage pieces bad, but also how some scenes, recognizable from the Jaws series, are imitated .

The windsurfing competition was the best scene. Because of the lame and stupid use of the obviously stolen images, but also because of how stupidly many victims there are at the same time. When it comes to killing, this beast goes as fast as a train. If he has tricked someone within 1 second, then 2 seconds later he has another victim and so on. It's fun. Especially when the stupidest made-up dialogues are involved. To top it all off, there's some hilariously bad acting.

I saw some smiles, especially among the people who had to run around in panic. Perry Pirkanen (actor from the infamous film "Cannibal Holocaust") had nothing to do after that film. The director is known for several bad films.

In an interview he said that he is not happy with his films at all. The reason why is completely clear after this film. I wonder if this cheap product has not been fined due to the copyright of Jaws itself. They really can't compete with a studio like "Universal". Hopefully a very large fine. I can appreciate some really bad films. But I do have a certain limit........... and it has been reached here.

0.5.
