Anna Boleyn plot

Anne Boleyn (Porten) is coveted by King Henry VIII (Jannings), when he is tired of Queen Catherine. However, the law required a successor to the throne, but Catherine was unable to provide that. Against the Pope's wishes, Henry divorces Catherine and founds the Church of England. Sir Henry Norris (Hartmann) is her jealous boyfriend, who leaves when he suspects Anne of having an affair with the king. When King Henry hears of the child Anne bears, later known as Queen Elizabeth, he leaves her for Lady Seymour.

It seems a bit strange that at the English court they speak in German intertitles. The history is too well known to surprise, so it gets a bit long-winded. Costumes and sets are nicely done. Henry VIII looks good in his portrait; This is less true for Anna Boleyn. What's really nice is that they play jeu de paumes - a precursor to tennis.

The story of Henry VIII is unfortunately well known. The king with his 6 wives and the one who renounced the Catholic Church because he was not allowed to divorce and then created the Anglican Church. Unfortunately, things went wrong with some of those women, two of them were beheaded, including Anna Boleyn.

This fairly long silent film tells the story of the events with his 1st wife Katarina, Boleyn himself and also Jane Seymour, his 3rd wife. I had to make do with German pancartes in medieval swashes, which didn't go too well, but I didn't think it was necessary either.

Very beautifully restored film with pale yellow colors, where I was struck by the very beautiful costumes and decor. A lot of work went into this film. Cheers! It was striking how the actor looked very much like the former English king.
