The Well plot
"I have a wife and two kids ... a thing like this can ruin me !"
A 5-year-old black girl, Carolyn Crawford, falls into a deep well on her way to school. Because there is no trace, the police are looking for a white man, who is rumored to have seen the girl last. When this suspect, Claude Packard, is caught, he is unjustly accused by the angry mob. In the meantime, however, Carolyn Crawford has still not been found.
