Not exactly our standard spaghetti western.

Boomerang action is one thing, but the eerie ghost town atmosphere combined with Cream-esque guitar music and an electro-acoustic experimental soundtrack makes it quite different from what we're normally used to.

Heavy dose of sadism/grimness and slow-motion scene that goes on for minutes.

Surprising video!

Weird. A bit rough at the beginning, but the last half hour is delightful. The horse attack and later the boomerang shootout are memorable. Not perfect, but as is often the case with these kinds of films, it has some magnificent scenes.

3.5*

This one I just watched, was from one of the Arrow boxes.

A strangely different spaghetti western with actors who look and act like they stepped straight out of "Hair." The weird, psychedelic guitar score, typical of the late '60s/early '70s, further reinforces this.

The cast consists mainly of stage actors and this is noticeable in the often exuberant gestures and reactions.

Pani behaves quite idiosyncratically and self-assuredly, but after dominating the first half hour, he disappears from the film entirely, only to rejoin at the very end.

The beautiful Gravi is especially very tasty, so I can take a lot of her.

It takes ages for the hero of the story, Castel, to join in, and then we watch for minutes as he's humiliated and tortured, only to be helped and freed by his horse, and then enter the final duel with his collection of boomerangs. Very unusual, but original and amusingly conceived.

The rest of the film is quite minimalist, with the exception of the beginning, taking place entirely in an abandoned and completely dilapidated ghost town with barely an inhabitant present.

Often quite unique editing and camera angles for a western, but ultimately you still need to come up with a better developed story, because it often became a bit boring and long-winded.

Ultimately somewhat disappointing.
A six, or 3 stars.
