Under the Greenwood Tree plot
The story is set against the backdrop of the rural village of Mellstock, where the local church choir is in great turmoil as it will be replaced by a harmonium. Dick Dewy, the truck driver, has his eye on school teacher Fancy Day. People, and especially Fancy's father, think that Dick is aiming too high with this. Despite a hasty promise to Reverend Maybold, Dick eventually wins over his beloved.

I often like films set in former England. I often find them very atmospheric. I also find this film atmospheric and quite nicely developed. Good acting and a romantic story that is easy to watch. An excellent snack, but not very special, as far as I'm concerned. 3*
