Madame Sans Gêne plot
Catherine Hubscher (Sophia Loren) is a humble laundress who works for Lieutenant Napoléon Bonaparte (Julien Bertheau). She falls in love with another officer named François-Joseph Lefebvre (Robert Hossein), and marries him. After the French Revolution, which gave Lefebvre a title of nobility, she went through life as a duchess. Lefebvre is appointed an important official of Napoleon, who has meanwhile become emperor. But Catherine gets into trouble when she can't keep her mind to herself.
