Very decent miniseries with a good story.

Beautiful images and nature beautiful costumes and the effects were not nearly so bad.

The actors are all good too.

3.5 star

Beautiful film adaptation of Homer's masterpiece. Some weird adjustments here and there, because Hector doesn't challenge Achilles in the Trojan War at all, just to name one example. The differences are only small, but perhaps that's why it's strange that it has been adjusted. The story is also excellently executed. The decor is beautiful. The special effects are sometimes very good (especially for a series). Armand Assante puts down a fantastic Odysseus, but not the entire cast scores enough. In any case, the story has remained fairly intact and the Greek gods have not been banished.

I loved this miniseries back in the 90s, but last year I watched it again (first time in 13 years) and it turned out it wasn't as great as I thought I remembered.

For TV professionals, this miniseries looks nice, with nice costumes and sets, decent effects (from the Jim Henson Studio, among others) and beautiful photography of the beautiful locations filmed in Malta and Turkey. Armand Assante is an excellent Odysseus and takes the series to the next level. Scacchi is also convincing as his wife who has been waiting for her husband for 20 years. The rest of the cast, however, pales in comparison and especially the supporting roles of well-known actors are sometimes cringingly bad.

The story is quite boring at times and several scenes are even downright sleep-inducing. Still, on the whole, The Odyssey can be called successful. The series became a huge success and received an Emmy Award for directing Andrey Konchalovskiy. Francis Ford Coppola was one of the executive producers.
