Fugitive Pieces plot

In middle age, Jakob Beer (Stephen Dillane) looks back on his life. He was born and raised as a Jew in Poland. His parents were shot to death during World War II and his sister Bella (Nina Dobrev) was taken away by the Nazis when he was still a teenager. Running away from home, Jakob is found by the Greek archaeologist Athos Roussos (Rade Šerbedžija), who is working in Poland. Athos smuggles him to his own native Greece. Shortly after the war, Athos and Jakob move to Canada. Years later, there, Jacob meets the spirited Alex (Rosamund Pike). The marriage with her breaks down because Jakob is obsessed with his memories, especially those of his sister Bella. Then he meets Michaela (Ayelet Zurer).
