The Hunting Party plot
"How can they find the world's most wanted war criminal when the C.I.A. can't... By actually looking?"
Slightly out of favor reporter Simon Hunt (Richard Gere) sees an opportunity for reparation when he comes on the trail of a Serbian war criminal. Together with his old friend, the cameraman Duck (Terrence Howard) and the inquisitive aspiring journalist Benjamin (Jesse Eisenberg), Hunt ventures into the mountains of Serbia, risking his own life. But the criminal, known by the nickname 'The Fox', enjoys protection and respect among the locals. In addition, the journalists are opposed by the UN observers and they have to complete their dangerous mission with a lot of bluff and guts.

A faltering mix of thriller and black comedy. With the exception of Terrence Howard's performance, the whole thing is rather substandard. Like Triage (2009), the film is based on a story by war correspondent Scott Anderson, but that is a much better film.

The Hunting Party has a somewhat strange mix of war drama, humor, thriller elements and even some romance. It works for the most part, but that is mainly due to the strong playing of Gere, Howard and Eisenberg, and the fact that many atrocities are kept out of the picture. Because one minute you're watching genocide in Bosnia, and the next there's a scene in which the three actors comically pose as CIA agents. It might be best if you think of The Hunting Party as an adventure movie Tintin shouldn't have been ashamed of. With humor and well, also genocide...
