"The Tower of London - a monument to the corruption of the soul, wherein the shadowed past a man gained the throne of England despite the insane ambition that drove him to evil and murder."

Tower of London tells the story of Richard III who will stop at nothing to become King of England. The film is actually a historical drama with a number of ghosts and torture scenes, but it is still Shakespeare.

Vincent Price gives an excellent performance as Richard, a role that suits his appearance. The rest of the acting wasn't bad either.

The film is beautifully shot in black and white, which gives the film a grim appearance. However, the beautiful battle scenes were borrowed from the earlier version from 1939. The music was also not bad.

All in all, certainly not a bad film, beautifully shot and good costumes and sets. Recommended for fans of Vincent Price.

Killing your way up...

Vincent Price is having fun again in this fun film.

Some older films sometimes have a tendency to be too long-winded or too explanatory, but that is not the case in Tower of London.

Things are going well here. No unnecessary long dialogues, but a clear, to-the-point story with a head and an end.

I enjoyed it.

Still, I would have liked to see the film in color, partly because of the sets and costumes. Something like in the The Masque Of The Red Death...

That would give this film that little bit extra for me.

Vincent Price does not often disappoint in films and here too he manages to create a great selfish villain with a psychopathic side. The beautiful black and white images and the chilly atmospheric locations in the castle create an excellent atmosphere. The film also has some effective horror elements such as the scene with the rat and Mistress Shore being tortured. 7/10
