L'Uomo senza Memoria plot
Peter has been in a car accident and has amnesia. He is treated by a psychiatrist in London who introduces him to someone who claims to know him. Peter does not recognize that person. The man points a revolver at him but is himself shot by someone who shoots from the outside through the window and flees. Peter wants to dispose of the body but receives a telegram from his ex-wife Sara. He decides to meet her again, but fails to recognize her in the station. However, he is helped by a man who has followed him. Sara notices that Peter has changed, and falls in love with him again...

Excellent amnesia thriller, a bit of a mix of the typical 70s thriller with giallo.
The focus is more on the plot than on the gore, although Lucio Fulci (Don't Torture a Duckling) and Mario Bava (Reazione a Catena) are quoted almost literally.
Film also does not forget to simply be exciting.
Senta Berger with chainsaw...that's why!

Giallo nothing.
Quite a lame crime story about a man who has lost his memory and is harassed by a number of unsavory characters. With the help of his sexy wife - from whom he had become estranged - he slowly discovers that he was apparently not a sweetheart himself...
Puzzle mainly relies on the beautiful filming locations (Portofino on the Ligurian coast) and the chemistry between the two protagonists. Senta Berger is truly a beautiful appearance. The 70's atmosphere is also good. However, there is not much else to do.
Don't expect much gore, sleaze or tension. Typical giallo murders are not included here either. Actually, this can hardly be called a horror, more of a crime/thriller. 3***

Given the title, the film indeed offers a puzzle to make the whole thing fit together nicely. However, the puzzle will never be completely finished because some loose ends remain open. You don't get a picture of the crime itself or whether or not the car accident was faked. You also get little insight into the other gangsters involved in the crime. But that does make the whole thing more mysterious and ensures that the viewer has to follow closely. Positives are the cast, the atmosphere and the locations. It is a mystery that the film is placed in the horror genre. The story is somewhat reminiscent of a giallo, but the typical features are omitted. No black gloves, few kills and exciting moments. More thriller, crime you could post this one. The final scene when the mysterious killer shows his true identity to Senta Berger in her house after she has had an accident, is a very strong scene. The build-up and then Berger's great display with the chainsaw. 7/10
