"Every day at a minute past midnight the sci-fi adventure begins... again."

The night after a colleague of Barry Thomas is shot dead, he receives an electric shock from a lamp. The next day, he notices that time is in a loop and he experiences yesterday again. This day keeps repeating itself every time. Since he is the only one who notices this, he has exactly one day each time to prevent the murder of his colleague and get the time out of his loop.

Nice film in which the same day keeps repeating itself due to a wrong experiment. Of course many similarities with Groundhog Day, but it remains a nice fact. The plot contains more thriller elements and sometimes even manages to generate some tension. Clearly made for TV, but certainly entertaining enough for a good 3.0 stars.

See here the difference of commercial influences. This film is based on a short from '91 and therefore seems to be before Groundhog Day, but it is the latter that is sprinkled with superlatives. I remember that I gave that film a deep fail: not because of the time loop aspect - because that's exactly what I like -, but because of the Hollywood romance sauce. This film feels more authentic (and therefore it is), but cheaper. That bothers me less, although the whole 90's feel sometimes makes you smile inappropriately. Main disadvantage; Romance is also the main theme here. I'd much rather watch time loop movies without that, like a Los Cronocrímenes.

In short, the set-up is great, and the film has a nice dose of humor. If it is going to hitchhike on an exciting intended plot with conspiracies, it works a lot less. Feels a bit clumsy. And so that romance as a guideline, capped with a gagging ending. Respect for the original concept, more than Groundhog Day, but bwaah, I'd rather see a different elaboration.
