Footsteps in the Fog plot

"CLOSE ENOUGH TO KISS...OR KILL!"

To his friends, Stephen Lowry is an intensely distressed widower. What they do not know, however, is that his wife was poisoned by himself. The only one who knows this is Lily, the housemaid, who cleverly uses this information to improve her position and stay close to Stephen. However, when things change in Stephen's life, namely a new job and new wife, he decides that Lily can leave. He shouldn't have said that.

This is melodrama in its purest form. This period drama begins with the funeral of the wealthy wife of Stephen Lowry (Stewart Granger), who poisoned his demanding wife to get rid of her and her money. Maid Lily Watkins (Jean Simmons) has discovered the poison and threatens to inform the police if Stephen doesn't do her bidding. It soon becomes clear that Lily isn't just after the money; she also has her sights set on Stephen himself, setting off a series of tragic, melodramatic, soap opera-like twists full of lust, deceit, and deceit. Granger and Simmons (who were married at the time) are perfect in this story, which boasts several surprising, and especially ironic, twists towards the end that make it a cut above the average. A must-see for fans of good melodrama.

Stewart Granger and Jean Simmons guarantee solid performances in a thrilling and entertaining thriller. A captivating plot, a strategic game, varying mastery of each main character, and often with ironic winks.

An inevitable drama at the end, which turns out to be quite surprising.

Very solid and clear construction;
