Plagues and Pleasures on the Salton Sea plot

The Salton Sea was once the Riviera of California where the rich and famous used to relax, far from the hectic life in Hollywood. Now there is not much left of the holiday paradise, and it is only a polluted salt lake; one of America's greatest ecological disasters. Dead fish wash up by the millions every year, the surrounding soil is polluted and the lake is slowly drying up. Today's residents are less glamorous than the movie stars of yesteryear: a community of eccentrics harbors hopes that the Salton Sea will be all right someday.
