Blood Diamond plot
"It will cost you everything."
The film is set in 1999 Sierra Leone, when the country is embroiled in a violent civil war. Danny Archer is a smuggler who specializes in selling so-called "blood diamonds", which financed the rebels. His life takes a turn when he comes into contact with a fisherman whose son has been captured by the rebels and trained as a child soldier.

You wish it was "bling bling" for anyone who works in the diamond industry. Unfortunately for those who work at the bottom of the hierarchy, it's often "bling bang"!
There are many deaths due to collapses, a lot of water at once after torrential rains and possessiveness of most people and then you are back in the hierarchy.
Also, most workers (often from other countries) have no rights at all.
As for the film, this is a gripping whole in which the protagonists Djimon Hounsou, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Connelly under the direction of director Edward Zwick can show their best.
If you look through all the misery then you can enjoy this film, at least we found it a pleasure how natural the actors and actresses put their roles. Of course, Zwick is not a novice director either. We know him from Defiance (2008) and The Last Samurai (2003).
I can recommend Blood Diamond (2006) for the viewer(s) who like a fascinating and educational film.

Intense film and based on truth. I saw this movie in the cinema once. Now for 1 euro at a flea market. Still a good movie though. What a terrible thing to have to grow up in these kinds of countries. I do get more respect for the 'real' refugees when you see these kinds of images. I understand that people risk their lives to sail/float on a boat from Africa to Europe.
After seeing the film I looked up the history of this country. Not really something that makes you happy. And we just complain here in the Netherlands. So really not allowed!!!
