High Strung plot

"See the music. Hear the dance."

Ruby Adams is a Midwestern dancer on a scholarship. She has her first day in New York, where she has come to live. Johnnie Blackwell is a British musician who plays for money in the underground tunnels. Ruby's world is classic and disciplined; Johnnie's world is one of improv and the street. One day, a hip-hop competition that spirals out of control brings the two artists together. At first they clash, but soon sparks fly. However, their lives will quickly become entangled in the pitfalls that arise with the competition in New York.

Totally predictable, cheerful interlude that mainly has to rely on two enthusiastic dance scenes; in the metro and during the competition. Hip hop and classical ballet are brought together in a surprising way.

Keenan Kampa is in my opinion an excellent ballet dancer and her acting in this film is certainly not disappointing. The latter does not really matter, because the run-of-the-mill story is of secondary importance.

Actually I didn't think this film was that good, certainly not the acting. As soon as some people open their mouths I don't believe anything they say because it comes out stiffly. Actually the film only appealed to me after twenty minutes, but fortunately it got better after that. Why am I putting the film in the picture now? Because I really like the dance routines and music. What is special is that this story is not about two dancers, but about a female dancer and a violinist. So you can also find beautiful violin work in this film. Not a film that you absolutely have to watch now, but if you have time to spare you can definitely put it in front of it. The ending (especially the final dance and the violin playing) is beautiful.
