Gösta Berling is a priest who is removed from office for his rebellious behavior. However, he possesses a greater idealism than most of his colleagues. After he is removed from office, he meets a number of people and becomes involved in a series of adventures in his quest for redemption. This is how he meets the beautiful Elisabeth.
