Still a special arthouse with that extra horror touch as you also see in Låt den Rätte Komma In (2008). However, the film starts very slowly and the first 45 minutes it is a bit of a search to find the direction the film wants to go. It gains momentum when those two young people finally enter the house.

And that there is something wrong with Shane is obvious, but the finger cannot be put on the pulse immediately. What follows is all mystery, although you can also see this as a slowly unfolding plot. The famous sex scenewas well-filmed, but was above all supported by a great soundtrack. Creepy and intense at the same time. The primal screams of the victim that sporadically came out, were terrifying. The latter was repeated in the final scene with the chambermaid.

A fine film indeed and understandable that some count this among their top films. I wouldn't go that far, but certainly a Denis to have seen once.

By accident I fell for Arte in this bizarre film (with German subtitles, mind you). If there is one thing I have a problem with, no, I have a deep-seated aversion to, it is the mixing of sex and mutilation. My mind cannot handle it. At times I looked away and turned off the sound. I had the same tendency with Von Trier's Anitchrist, but then I was in the cinema, warned by a sign at the counter that said "This film contains very shocking images" or something like that.

Despite these horrific scenes, there was a lot of mystery in the story that was revealed in an intriguing way. Unfortunately, the musical support was sometimes downright annoying for my taste. Nevertheless, it was captivating enough to sit through the ride.

Oh yes, the female beauty was captured breathtakingly, the camerawork was tiptop anyway, and the acting performances were also very solid.

This is a kind of arthouse film with gloomy music (by Tindersticks) composed of seemingly separate storylines that later intersect. However, some characters are not as ordinary as they seem at first sight and give rise to some scenes of abnormal, excessive and disgusting violence. The title of the film seems rather cynically chosen.

When the film was finished, I didn't really know what I had watched. The narrative has an open ending. It's as if the entire film is hung on the two scenes of über violence (although not even that explicit) but otherwise it seems pointless. Maybe that's where the title comes from because it gives a portrait of groups of people and their so-called problems, without a solution.

What disappointed me was the moment when Dr. Brown's house and dead wife are on fire. He arrives and we hardly see any emotion. No, in the meantime we hear the same continuous register, a gloomy piece of music on the soundtrack. It would not have been bad to build in a bit more realism here.

Nevertheless, the film as a whole also has something haunting, those moments of eroticism that culminate in an inferno. Bizarre case.
