I wish I could find these kinds of films either very good or very bad, I just can't. Such an experiment always results in new, original and daring cinema, but the film experience is also always limited for me by the limits that the experiment imposes on itself.

Container is a film that separates and mixes visual language and spoken language like no other. I don't think the film is completely non-narrative, because not only does the voice-over provide an understanding of what the images tell, there also seems to be some kind of development in the character. In the beginning, most of the emphasis is on a gender identity disorder and the related problems, towards the end the film shows complete, psychiatric derailment. It is a pity that Moodysson ignores the serious problems of transsexuals in this way, although that theme might have been less interesting cinematically.

Images are generally strong, especially the abstract sequences. I also liked the voice-over, that voice seems to me to be used deliberately because it leaves open the possibility that a man is speaking who is trying to feminize his voice. Good choice to use a number of motifs (celebrities, catastrophes, WWII), so that the film remains coherent.

As I said, however, I rarely find such an experiment to provide a full film experience. Here because there is still little development, I have absolutely not experienced that hypnosis feeling and it therefore remains a bit distant-interesting for me. A boring 3 star from me, it's no different.

Revised and remains very powerful.

I still can't recognize a real narrative in it and the link between what is told and what happens on the screen remains a bit vague, but as far as I'm concerned this is not a film that responds to logic.

Moodysson (what's in a name) creates a feeling, an atmosphere and an impression here. It is quite on the dark side, by the way, so if you don't feel like a heavy, somewhat depressing film, it's better to leave it aside for a while.

Also the only movie where I think the dub has added value. If you have to read subs all the time during this movie, I think it's detrimental to the experience. In addition, Malone's 70-minute monotonous monologue is quite impressive and extremely atmospheric. So the exception to the rule.

Not for everyone, but anyone who is not averse to experimental, oppressive cinema should have seen this one.

Phew,

I actually knew absolutely nothing about the movie until I turned it on this afternoon. And although I think it can very often be an added value, it is also dangerous in this case. Because if you expect a coherent film you will soon get a metal lid on your nose, and even if you expect something abstract (which I expected) this is many times more abstract than I could have imagined.

It's actually a kind of Umfeld meets Rabbits in an ASMR jacket. Now I will say very honestly that the images could actually be stolen from me for the most part, because although they certainly contribute to the emotion I experience while watching, it is without doubt Jena Malone's monotonous monologue that steals the show here. Even with your eyes closed, this is a fantastic experience. Agree with Onderhond that the dub really has added value here and I can recommend that to everyone.

Also absolutely recommended to people who like ASMR just like me. My ears thought this was really crazy!

4.5*
