The Pied Piper plot

"It's all heart and thrills!"

mr. Howard is a genteel Brit who prides himself on disliking children. He is on a fishing holiday in the east of France when the Germans invade France in 1940. In order to return on his own, he has to agree to accompany a number of French children on their way to England. During his journey, however, more and more children are added. But things get really dangerous when the group has to travel through occupied France, partly because Mr. Howard doesn't speak a word of French.

A strange film with a sometimes strikingly lighthearted tone, and instead of taking the children to neutral Switzerland—nearby, mind you—those parents make their children make the dangerous journey straight through France with a stranger.

The ending is cleverly conceived, but the film as a whole is put together rather implausibly.
