Mark Harmon, Meg Ryan, and even Sean Connery.

The latter manages to boost it a bit. Other than that, it's a bit of a mediocre film. Well, Ryan and Connery hadn't fully consolidated their stardom at the time, and with Harmon it never quite worked out. Perhaps more so because the whole of America was shocked by his role as Deliberate Stranger, after they had all come to know him as some sort of ideal son-in-law as the sideways doctor in St. Elsewhere.

Yet, in itself, back in time, and measured by the police films of the time - Dirty Harry, anyone? at that same level, of course, it does not come anywhere. But it's not really bad either, and the scene of Connery who keeps a fighting decency under my thumb has really stuck with me over the years. Just like Meg Ryan with her braces backwards. And big hair. Fortunately, that too is long behind us.

Standard 80s movie. A simple murder investigation, buddy movie dialogues, a few chases and a spicy romance that adds some fuel to the fire. It's that it's still well filmed and has Sean Connery in it, because Harmon really isn't suited for such a lead role and the murder investigation isn't the most compelling I've seen. Six years earlier this movie would have been a success but people were getting tired of this kind of movie in the late 80's and let this be just as very predictable. Not the waster I thought it would be, but nothing more than a snack either.

Fairly entertaining whodunnit with some action at the end. The cast is fine but Sean Connery in particular is excellent. There are some nice scenes with him in it, like the fight with the thumb. I couldn't care less about the Meg Ryan thing. It feels a bit like a stretched TV episode. You don't really get immersed in the military world either, little atmosphere.

Note the tiny role of Jenette Goldstein, soldier Vasquez in Aliens, at the very beginning.
