Frightening tension and recently finally a long-awaited beautiful transfer on blu-ray from www.filmjuwelen.de with a choice of English (mono) or German (DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0) tape. No subtitles.

I do remember that this movie was on TV at the time, and apparently it made quite an impression - it must have been about forty years ago. Then I didn't notice the huge holes in the plot, and that the idea was just about stolen from Coma (because I only saw it much later).

It is occasionally noticeable that it is a TV production, but on the other hand, the budget was apparently there to go wide. Because, a German TV movie, with German-speaking actors, and then shooting in America, then you don't really look at a dime. Perhaps it was found a bit too scary to place the setting at home in Germany.

In terms of music it is very sad, with the pushy tune with which the punch line is given away right at the beginning. And the images didn't devastate me either. The cast is on a decent TV level, but also definitely no more than that, with perhaps a minor exception for Speidel. But the biggest problem is the timing of the narrative, and the hopelessly stretched denouement - say anything that passes after the hospital could have been cut up better. As if Erler wanted to traverse the entire US at all costs - a sweet trip at the expense of the boss - but didn't have enough inspiration to make the story fit.
