It's been a long time since I saw such an intriguing film. It is intriguing on so many different levels.

The style, the world, but also the story. It's been a long time since I've seen a movie with so much tension. Take the style of Sin City, the world of Blade Runner and the story of an old-school Hollywood blockbuster and you have Renaissance. An animated film noir in black and white, set in the future. What brilliant fool would have ever thought of something like that?

The story may be a bit standard and simple, but the execution is very good. The score certainly helps, although it was a bit too present at times. I might have seen some of the characters explored a little more, a small downside to an otherwise very strong film.

Delicious!

I'm certainly not a connoisseur when it comes to animation, and I have no ambition to be. But I too can only conclude that visually this was truly stunning. Unfortunately, the somewhat hackneyed story is never really pushed into the background, but the sublime animation ensures that you can marvel at what is conjured up on the screen in almost every scene. Tarantino and associates can add to that with their Sin City.

But the visual is also the only striking thing about the film; for the rest it is almost assembly line work. The banal, almost Hollywood-esque story was a bit too much of an obstacle for me to get a really high rating. The film would have been a little less epic. The soundtrack also largely lingers on solidity, in contrast to - as mentioned - the visual aspect.

But visually it's definitely worth it, that's why it gets 3.0*.

I've wanted to see this movie for a long time. But it was somewhat forgotten until Volckman came with a new film (the room). I decided to watch the Renaissance first and this is a really great film. Right up my alley! The lack of color, the atmosphere, the backgrounds. After 14 years, this animation is still rock solid. And for a computer animation that is really impressive.

I don't really understand the comments on the story. It is well structured and not too simple, with some twists, but not too complex that you can no longer follow it. Trite story? The theme of this film is often seen in science fiction, but the effect is still original. There are some very good finds in this film such as invisible bad guys that add to the atmosphere of the film.

The only thing I think is a shame is that the characters are a bit difficult to separate and sometimes seem a bit wooden when you look at the mouths and they don't quite follow what is being said. But those are details, this is simply a very impressive, groundbreaking animation.
