Prosecutor Victor Scott arranges for a suspect to be convicted of the murder of a woman. When the suspect is on his way to the electric chair, Victor suddenly finds evidence that exonerates the suspect. However, Victor is too late to save the man. He immediately quits his job and starts a private law firm, where he quickly arouses the interest of some important mobsters.

I have rarely seen someone act as self-assuredly as Edward G. Robinson did in this film. The man really knew how to give the right answer to every question, from his short interview with a journalist to his risky ventures in court. Jayne Mansfield could have gotten a bit more screen time in my opinion, very beautiful woman. The rest of the cast did not do badly either, Nina Foch, Albert Dekker and Ellen Corby played their roles particularly well. Entertaining and exciting Noir with an equally exciting and surprising denouement.
